FAQ

What’s the one thing I should remember about this event?
Well, besides the when and where (Associated, 4PM 11/19), remember that you have to bring your $10 entry to play in the tournament!

Are Minors Welcome?
Yes! Minors are allowed in Associated until 8pm, and we’ll almost definitely be done by then.

What happens if there’s a tie for points in a group?
If it has implication on who advances, the players who tied will play one single random race and the finish order will determine the final positions in the group.

Is this a BYOC (Bring Your Own Controller) tournament?
BYOC is encouraged, but not required. We’ll have some controllers on hand, but there’s no guarantee as to what type you’ll get (wiimote/nunchuck, WiiU gamepad, etc), so if possible, you’re definitely better off bringing your own. If you damage a controller that isn’t yours, you will be immediately disqualified from the tournament.

What kind of controller can I bring?
As long as it will connect (easily, without unusual amounts of setup) to a WiiU, it’s a legal controller.

I didn’t sign up fast enough to be in the first 16, but I really want to play. What can I do?
Sign up and show up anyway! Registrations after the first 16 will be put into a waitlist, and in the (somewhat likely) event one of the competitors doesn’t show up on the day, anyone present from the waitlist will be able to take their spot on a first-registered first-served basis.

If you don’t want to show up unless you’re sure you’re playing, sign up for our mailing list at http://eggcorn.co and stay tuned for the next tournament! Our hope is that this event goes well and we get to do it again sometime. Signing up for our mailing list not only helps us achieve that, but subscribers will receive advance notice as to when future event registration will open.

Why is there an entry fee?
Well, there are a few reasons. First, everything’s a little bit more fun when there’s a prize for the winners. An entry fee’s primary purpose is to feed the prize pool. Second, an entry fee dissuades hyper-casual entrants and keeps the tournament more competitive as a whole. Third, as you might imagine, there are costs associated (ha!) with putting on an event like this. An entry fee allows us to recoup some of those costs while still funneling the majority into the prize pool.

What is the prize payout?
First place gets $70, second gets $40, and third gets $10.

Can I just come and watch?
Absolutely! Spectators are encouraged, and there’s obviously no cost to observe! Associated has great food and drink, and it’ll be a lot of fun to hang out and see some skillful driving.
